Making Oregon THE Place That Lives Up to Our Shared Potential

Oregon is absolutely wonderful. I say that often in conversations because I know it to be true.

It is also true that too many conversations lately about our state now start with an audible sigh and another negative stat. Reading scores near the bottom of the Nation’s Report Card. A business climate ranked 42nd in the country. Families we know packing for Arizona or Texas. Wild places we love and then treat like a backdrop.

Those numbers are real.

They should make us serious, they should make us alarmed.

However, they do not make us small.

I look at those rankings and I do not see a finished failure. I see unused capacity. I see Oregon’s untapped potential, especially right here in the 37th.

This is our moment to change the story.
We’ve got the talent, the communities, and the determination to turn things around faster than anyone in Salem thinks possible. No more treating decline like Oregon’s personality. No more reciting the rankings like a eulogy. A eulogy is for something that is over.

Oregon is FAR from over.

Imagine the future we can be building together:

The untapped potential of a student we refuse to leave behind, every child reading by fourth grade, with teachers backed instead of buried, and the same high expectations our families already hold in West Linn, Tualatin, River Grove, and Durham.

The unused potential of a business that grows here instead of somewhere else, a second location on this side of the river, an apprentice hired in Tualatin, a payroll that stays in Clackamas and Washington counties because Salem finally treats businesses like a gift to multiply, not a problem to manage.

The unused potential of the wild places that made people choose Oregon in the first place, trails families can actually use, parks kept like an inheritance, rivers we protect with stewardship instead of slogans. The Tualatin. The Willamette. The green that still surprises you two minutes off a busy road.

We don’t have to wait for Salem to believe in Oregon. We can send Salem someone who already does.

Optimism without action is a greeting card. Action without belief is just exhaustion. What this district needs is both: we need Optimism in Action.

That is the whole campaign. Literacy programs that actually work. A business climate where a good companies can stay and grow. Housing and roads that match the lives people live here. Parks and rivers treated like the reason families stay.

Your voice, your involvement, your vote matters. I ask that you join this campaign and help us tell a truer story about Oregons potential. One that is honest about the gap, passionate about the possibility, and someone who will take our shared optimism and put it into action in Salem.

Oregon is not used up. Oregon is waiting to be believed in.
